Ottawa Citizen 3 July 1996 Vars resident killed by passenger train A 37-year-old man was killed in a train fatality in Cumberland Township on Tuesday. Local provincial police said Joey MacRillo, a resident of a nursing home in the hamlet of Vars, died after being hit by a westbound VIA train at about 7:30 p.m. At the time 'he was standing on the tracks, apparently aware of the oncoming train, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
