Ottawa Citizen 21 November 1977 Man merely shaken in car-train bump CHALK RIVER (Staff) An area resident escaped injury Friday when the car he was driving hit a moving train. Douglas Roblin, 18, of RR 1, Chalk River, was shaken up and his car was destroyed, said Ontario Provincial Police in Pembroke. Roblin was driving out of the Petawawa Forestry Experimental Station, 20 miles west of Pembroke, towards Highway 17 when he struck the side of the Canadian Pacific train The Canadian, which was travelling west at about 80 kmh, police said. There are no train signal lights on the paved, private road. The accident occurred at dusk. The train's engineer told police he saw the car trying to stop. No charges have been laid. |
