From the Ottawa Citizen 20 February 1965 Train off rails, but passengers didn't know it GANANOQUE (Special) The east-bound Toronto-Montreal CNR passenger train was held up for more than an hour here after the back wheels on the front engine slipped off the tracks about 8 o'clock Friday night. No one was injured in the minor derailment, and most passengers did not even know a mishap had occurred. A portion of the wooden platform in front of Gananoque Junction was torn up. Officials said the train was travelling at 70 miles an hour when a mechanical fault in the casings of the engine's wheels caused them to slip off the tracks |
