Ottawa Citizen 5 November 1963 Auto runs into train, woman slightly injured Five persons, Including two pre-school children, escaped serious injury Monday night when their car crashed broadside with a freight train at the Fallowfield Road level crossing just west of Wood-roffe Avenue. Only injury was sustained by Mrs. Gus Korovessis, 35, of 174 Arthur St., wife of the driver and five months pregnant, who was admitted to the Civic Hospital for facial lacerations. Korovessis, 45, told police his brakes failed. He said he was eastbound on Fallowfield when he spotted the southbound Ottawa-Belleville CNR train. He said he swerved left to avoid running into the train but hit the second car behind the two engines, ripping open the passenger side of his car. The couple's two children, Jimmy, two, and Bessie, three, were in the back seat with Tony Koritsaris, 16, of Richmond. Const. Robert Mancusso of the Gloucester-Nepean police said damage to the train was negligible |
