1958, January 8 - Crossing Accident CNR Vars, Alexandria sub., one injury

From the Ottawa Citizen  9 January 1958 Aurele Surprenant, 25, of RR 1 Vars, leaped from his 1950 auto seconds before it skidded intothe side of the fast-moving CNR Continental in the heart of! Vars, 20 mile east of Ottawa The train did not stop. Witnesses said the young farmer was thrown heavily to the roadway after his leap but had he stuck with his car, would likely have been killed. The engine of his vehicle was ripped from the car's body and large chunks of it carried almost ha!f a mile.
