An unknown man killed on track
Brockville,
Ont., Oct. 8. - an inquest opened by Dr. C. A. McPherson, coroner,
Prescott, on the body of an unknown man who was struck and killed on
Saturday by the westbound International Limited, of the Canadian
National Railways, near Maitland station, was adjourned until Thursday
when the evidence of members of the train crew will be given.
The
train was travelling at a speed of 60 miles an hour when the man was
observed beside the track. Engineer W. H. Wheatley, Montreal, sounded
warning blasts of the whistle, but the men stepped directly in front of
the train and was struck and thrown into the ditch, every bone in his
arms and legs being broken.
There were no papers on the body by
which he might be identified, and burial is to be made by the township
of Augusta. The man was from 35 to 40 years of age, had black hair and
several days growth of beard.
