Winchester Press 17 May 1923 A young man named Banwell, of Portage du Fort, holding a ticket from Ottawa to Braeside attempted suicide on the C.P.R. train reaching Carleton Place at 5.20 p.m. on Wednesday by taking strychnine. The prompt use of a stomach pump at Carleton Place saved his life. The Carleton Place Central Canadin says that the act was prompted by the man being jilted by a school teacher belonging to Renfrew county, and after his life had been saved, the man declared that he would never again attempt suicide. |
