Ottawa Citizen - March 27 Early yesterday morning two freight cars on the St. Lawrence & Ottawa Railway, when near the Montreal Road crossing, ran off the track. They were slightly damaged. Shortly after the accident occurred a man called at the police station and said that a large number of men and women were killed and wounded and he wanted to take out medical assistance to them. The intelligence naturally created considerable excitement, and the policemen started off for the scene of the tragedy. On their way out however, they met a gentleman who was on the train at the time of the accident. He told them that everything was safe, and with the exception of a slight accident to the two freight cars no damage was done. The excited individual who gave the police information in the first place left the station, stating that he would get some cabs in which to convey the dead and wounded to the city. |
