Serious Fire at Russell Village
- - -
The fire spread rapidly from building to building and for a time the station of the New York Central Railway appeared to be doomed. Volunteers working feverishly with snow shovels, spread snow over the roof of the building  when embers set it on fire from time to time. Thick black smoke spread over the scene, as two carloads of coal on a railway siding were ignited and continued to burn furiously throughout the night.
