Fire At Dalkwith Keeps the G.T.R. Hands Busy on Railroad Property Hawkesbury Dec. 9. - Fire originating from an unknown cause destroyed the pumphouse engineroom and water tank of the Grand Trunk Railway company on Saturday afternoon. The building was a wooden structure and the flames made such rapid progress that nothing could be done to save the property. A quantity of coal and oil was in the engine room and only added to the intensity of the heat. A crowd of employes, mostly section men and residents of the village gathered around, but the flames raged so fiercely that it was impossible to get near the building. It is estimated that the damage will be about $1,100. Repeated in Eastern Ontario Review 13 December 1907 |
