Cogs In Railway Wheel Had 142 Years Service, Published 1 August 1957

Three Canadian Pacific Railway employes with a total of 142 years service are retiring. They are:
Ernest Smith, 63 Melrose Avenue, yardmaster, Ottawa West, who retires after 47 years with the railroad.
Alphonse James Belier, 781 Somerset Street West, cashier, local freight office. He retires after 46 years service with the company.
Gordon Keith Stewart, 35 Finlay Avenue; who retires as agent at the Union Station for the CPR after 49 years with the company.
A remarkable coincidence is that all these men have put in all their careers in Ottawa. Ail were born in Ottawa, worked in Ottawa all their lives, and are retiring in Ottawa.
Only one broke his service record. A. J. Belier was overseas with the 207th Infantry Battalion in the First World War.
