Grasse River Railroad, Published 12 August 1953 I
have been chided for missing the Grasse River Railroad by five years.
When recently I got to Chlldwold. N.Y to ride the railway to Conifer,
the local boys laughed at me and said that the railroad had been ripped
up for five years. More recently I have got in touch with the railway man's Bible. "The Official Guide" and Charles B. Bullwinkel, veteran treasurer of the guide to ''railways and steam navigation lines of the United States, Porto Rico, Canada, Mexico and Cuba" writes thus: Our records Indicate that the (Grasse River) Railroad has abandoned for years between Conifer and Cranberry Lake but still operates the line between Chiidwold and Conifer." Well, my boon companion Leo Burkholder went with me, and he will testify that one of its leading citizens in Conifer started laughing out loud when I asked for the Grasse River Railway. He will alio testify that the man said the tine had been torn up, the station torn down. This then is official notice to Charles D. Bullwinkel, 424 West Thirty-Third Street in New York that the railway he shows as the Grasse River Railroad at Page 168 In my Railway Guide isn't there. |
