2004 - Railway Work In Bolivia

I finished off my work writing railway safety regulations for Bolivia in 2004. This time I stayed in La Paz. The office was in La Paz but I was living in Calacoto, a suburb, some 500 feet below La Paz. I did not see any railway action but saw a little of Calacoto and La Paz as well as spending a weekend on Lake Titicaca.

Calacoto

Calacoto is a very pleasant location in which to live. There are plenty of food shops, groceries, restaurants, bars etc so that the commute into La Paz was not a drag. I only went to La Paz for meetings, most of my work was done at home. But the most extraordinary part of Calacoto was the surrounding countryside of which more later..

There are great number of modern structures

Any excuse for a parade

The countryside
surrounding Calacoto is extraordinary

La Paz

La Paz is set within the mountains at 12,000 feet. Calacoto is some 500 feet lower.
