A young man named Banwell, of Portage du Firt, holding a ticket from Ottawa to braeside attempted suicide on the C.P.R. train reaching Carleton Place at 5.20 p.m. on Wednesday by taking strychnine. The prompt use of a stomach pump at carleton Place saved his life. The Carleton Place central Canadin says that the act was prompted by the man being jilted by a school teacher belonginh to |Renfrew county, and after his life had been saved, the man declared that he would never again attempt suicide.
