1874, August 17 - Trainman killed when hit by Brady's bridge, St. Lawrence and Ottawa Railway

Fatal Railway Accident -  Last evening a fatal accident occurred on the St. Lawrence & Ottawa 9.30 mixed train from Ottawa, while nearing Brady's Bridge near the Chaudiere Junction. A brakesman named Michael Nidd, who has been on the line for only five weeks, while connecting the bell cords, was stiuck in the head by Brady's bridge and knocked from the top of the cars. He fell underr the car and nine of them passed over him. When recovered the body was mutilated in a fearful manner The train was going at the rate of twenty miles an hour. The young man who occupied the situation befoie him also met with an accident through which he lost his leg and is still laid up from the effect of it.
